LATEST SELF-PORTRAIT

I started this self-portrait last April, worked fast, didn't like it. Turned its face to the wall. Occasionally stared and fiddled with it. Left it to marinate for a few months. This evening I finished it.

I've been emerging all my long artist's life. Does anyone ever stop emerging?

Self-Portrait as Emerging Artist. 2018. Oil on canvas 25 x 30 cms

Surely this is your best ever: the brave questioning in those eyes, the strength ...

As Vincent says, it's that seeking look which I find compelling. An artist should always be looking out as well as in - and thus always emerging ....

Vincent, thank you. It's good to know you appreciate this. Maybe, after a lifelong search for the particular road in art which is "mine", I'm actually on it.

Olga, thank you. Looking inward and outward simultaneously, yes, that is the aim.
