EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE

The banal lyrics of this song are transformed by Nina Simone's extraordinary voice and piano into a profound hymn that hits you in the solar plexus from the very first deep chord to the last high-flying heart-tearing note.

I'm posting it here because today's a good day for making changes.

I so totally agree on change. It's the big emphasis in all my books. Sometimes it takes a lot of pressure for us to be willing to change happily but happy or not, change comes.

I'll listen to that full blast when there's no-one around! I know what you mean about the way the opening gets you.

Rain, I was thinking about small day-to-day changes but listening to that great Nina Simone song again inspired me. I've always been one for major life-changes but time is somewhat reducing their proportions!

Dominic, it does really need full volume. I've been playing it repeatedly today and it never gets boring. Nobody like Nina for inhabiting a song in her own unique way.

Lucy, brava Nina, yes!

Like you all said! A car journey staple, this.

Dick, I'd love to know what else is on your car journey CD?

I see so much change around me right now, and the inner self is resisting.
Great number.

Hattie, could it be useful (I ask myself) to make a short list of the major changes one has made in one's life - those that were actually chosen rather than imposed by circumstances - and see what came about as a result?

Change is the only true constant.

I liked the song.

Hello Anil P and welcome.Glad you liked the song.

Isn't change Like the ocean, always moving, yet always remaining the ocean?

In French we say: "Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose." Translated: the more things change, the more they are the same.

You're right about the lyrics but, wow, what a performance!

Bruce, glad you share my enthusiasm for this number. I've always liked Nina but this one is right up there at the top of her repertoire, in my opinion.

It's too early in the AM for me to play it - I have a house full of slumberers. I'm particularly taken with NS singing I wish I knew how. As a gross indulgence I've inserted her twice into the last two novels, once singing IWIKH. Her especial talent for me is to sing emotional ballads convincingly while still retaining that hard detachment which makes her the woman she is. Nothing is given away. She'd be the last person on earth to blubber.

Roderick, I hope you'll find a moment in the day to play it at top volume. Normally I cringe at anything played very loud but this number demands it. 'I wish I knew how it feels to be free' is also one of my very favourites of hers - I used it as sound track in one of my home-made mini videos (it's somewhere on my site). I agree with your assessment of NS.
